Dr. Lonnie G. Thompson, School of Earth Sciences at The Ohio State University  

Dr. Lonnie G. Thompson is a Distinguished University Professor in the School of Earth Sciences and a Research Scientist in the Byrd Polar Research Center at The Ohio State University.

National Medal of Science recipient Dr. Thompson delivered a speech related to Earth's climate system in recognition of Earth Day week.

Sophia Pandya Lecture:
Muslim Women in the West  

This event is organized by Students for Dialogue club at OSU and sponsored by Scioto Educational Foundation and Niagara Foundation.

Professor Sophia Pandya specializes in women, Islam, and globalization. She received her BA from UC Berkeley in Near Eastern Studies/Arabic, and her MA and PhD from UCSB in Religious Studies, with a focus on women and Islam. Dr. Pandya is currently a professor in California State University, Long Beach.

Calligraphy and Ebru (Marbling Paper) Exhibit and Demonstration
 

Dr. Mehmet R. Kileci, master of calligraphy and marbling, founder of Roumi Art Instituut in Rotterdam (Netherlands) exhibited his artwork and performed live demonstration at SEF.

7th Annual Dialogue Dinner


The Annual Dialogue Dinner for 2009 took place  at Hyatt Regency Columbus. The theme of this year’s dinner was “The Alliance of Civilizations.” Congresswoman Jean Schmidt was the keynote speaker. We also had the honor of having Mustafa Ozbayrak, an elected Turkish parliamentarian whose assembly own the idea of “Alliance of Civilizations” and work hard to promote peace in the world. Spring Bake Sale


Our members came together in order to raise funds in support of SEF. The sale attracted hundreds over the course of a weekend enabling them to taste and purchase Baklava, Borek (filled pastry), Manti (Turkish Ravioli), Stuffed Grapeleaves, and Embroidery, Scarves, and Various Gift Ideas! We thank our members and guests who contributed to this event.
